I started in construction in 1999, working through housing refurbishment and new-build homes before moving into apartments, major retail fit-out, railway construction, depots and stations. Snagging, quality and completion have followed me through virtually every stage of that career.

I know what a real walk-around looks like: a phone full of photographs, notes written quickly, dozens of defects competing for attention, and then an evening spent matching photographs to descriptions before building a register somebody else can actually act on.

That is the problem SnagSort is designed around.

From housing snagging to major infrastructure

The early years were hands-on: local-authority housing refurbishment, around 60 flats in Chelsea, new-build homes in Bristol and apartment delivery in Cardiff. At the London 2012 Athletes' Village I worked on a plot of around 300 apartments, with the same practical challenge repeated at scale: inspect the work, capture the defect, allocate it, close it and prove that it is complete.

At Bouverie Place in Folkestone I worked as a package manager on internal finishes and decoration in a major shopping-centre development. That brought a different version of the same problem: multiple trades, interfaces, finishes, tenant readiness and a large volume of defects that have to be closed before handover.

The work then moved into major rail. I was Construction Manager on the £102m Borough Viaduct project, Construction Project Manager on the £110m Hornsey Depot upgrade, and later delivered 12 depot and station upgrade projects for Hitachi Rail before leading a £200m+ property and construction portfolio across live operational sites.

The problem never really changed

The projects became larger and more technical, but snagging itself remained surprisingly manual.

You see something wrong. You take a photograph. You write a note. Later somebody has to work out which photograph belongs to which defect, where it is, who owns it, whether it has been completed, what evidence proves closure, and how all of that gets turned into a register the rest of the team can use.

I have also spent years designing and improving quality gates, commissioning workflows, handover processes and digital project controls. SnagSort brings those two perspectives together: the reality of the site walk and the discipline required to turn it into controlled project information.
