Start with the job
Make the choice around your team
Choose SnagSort only if its project-context assistance and complete workflow deliver enough practical value to justify paying.
Choose Dalux Field Basic when its free drawing/BIM task workflow meets the job. Consider the wider Dalux offering when model navigation or more extensive inspection processes are central to your project.
Use context to clarify the finding
SnagSort brings supplied requirements and drawing information into project questions and reviewed drafting. The useful result is less searching or retyping, not simply another pin on a plan.
Start from the evidence you have
Drawings are helpful when available, but a useful first observation should not depend on a completed model or document setup. The photograph, site note and confirmed location can begin the record.
Test the whole return loop
SnagSort keeps completion submission separate from the inspector's acceptance or return. Dalux also documents ready-for-sign-off and traceability. Compare the clarity and effort on a real repeated inspection.

|---|---|---|
| Cost of entry | Paid web plans from £12/month; public trial conditions apply. | Field Basic is published as free. [1] |
| Location and model scope | Optional drawing context; project-aware source assistance. | Strong drawings/BIM orientation and task placement. [1] |

| Inspection decision | Ready for Inspection, with authorised acceptance/return. | Ready-for-sign-off responses and a traceable sign-off process. [1] |

Illustrative workflow: a PM is considering a subscription while a free plan-based tool is available. The meaningful question is how much work remains after the photographs are taken.
Check the baseline
Capture a representative set in the current method or Dalux. Include location entry, wording corrections and preparation of the list each trade needs.
Use SnagSort's project context
Try the same source documents and comparable items. Check suggested wording and locations instead of treating AI output as automatically accurate.
Follow one repair through review
Receive completion evidence and have the authorised inspector accept or return it. Include the record and export in the timed comparison.
Pay only for a workflow improvement the team can reproduce. A slightly different interface alone is a weak reason to leave a free tool.

What the subscription covers
Dalux Field Basic's published subscription cost is zero. SnagSort's current web entry plan is £12 per month for one active project, with larger project allowances on Team and Business. Compare paid Dalux extensions separately if you need them. Count setup, correction and support time alongside subscription cost, without assuming those costs are lower in either product.

Your decision test
Bring one real project to the comparison
Use the same observations, drawings, people and output requirements in both products. Record total effort and the quality of the acceptance record.
- Include project setup and repeated location entry.
- Check source context rather than only plan pins.
- Count the user's corrections to AI suggestions.
- Require a useful report and traceable inspection outcome before judging value.
Questions your team will ask
SnagSort vs Dalux: answers
Why pay for SnagSort if Dalux Field Basic is free?
Pay only if its reviewed drafting, supplied project context and workflow remove enough real administration to matter to you. The trial should establish that value; a free tool that already meets the job is a sensible choice.
Does Dalux already collect contractor completion photos?
Yes. Its Field Basic page describes contractor responses with photographs, markups and text, and marking tasks ready for sign-off. That is not an exclusive SnagSort feature.
Do we need BIM to start SnagSort?
No. A project can start without drawings or specifications. Add useful documents later, review the suggested context and use optional pins when they reduce uncertainty.
Is SnagSort a replacement for Dalux's BIM viewer?
This comparison does not establish equivalent model-viewing capability. If BIM navigation is essential, evaluate Dalux's published model tools and keep that requirement separate from SnagSort's defect workflow.
What would make the subscription worthwhile?
A repeatable improvement in the complete job: setup, capture, corrections, issue, contractor response, inspection and records. Use your own labour cost and measured time rather than a generic savings percentage.
Can the two products be used together?
Only with a clear owner for the authoritative item record and an agreed export process. No native Dalux sync is promised here. If using both requires retyping the same defects, the extra administration may defeat the purpose.
